Art Club returns with a new name and new projects. The Art Reflection program is for children in the 1st through 6th grade. Members study the works of famous artists and different forms of art and create works of art based on those artists.
This month we will review the work of glass sculptor Dale Chihuly and create artwork inspired by his Macchia series. A signature element of Chihuly’s Macchia is the fusing of colored glass chips (called jimmies or frit) onto the exterior layer to create a spotted, speckled effect. Later they will learn about the work of Romare Bearden, who was renowned for his collages and photomontages- a technique he began to experiment with in the 1950s, establishing his reputation as a leading contemporary artist. They will create a life board, a collage reflecting their goals for the future.
Participants must pre-register for this club and space is limited to 15 students. Register at the Circulation Desk.
