The Art Club is for children in the 1st through 6th grade. Members study the works of famous artists and different forms of art and create works of art that illustrate the work. The Art Club is supported in part by a PA Partners in the Art Project Stream Grant awarded by the Elk County Council on the Arts and Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. With the funding from this grant, the Art Club is able to offer art classes facilitated by local artists. The program is free and open to the public.
Laura Hickey, local artist, will lead the December 5 and 12 sessions. Participants must attend both sessions. Art club members will explore the work of Wayne Thiebaud. Throughout his career, Thiebaud utilized everyday objects and food as subject matter for his painting. In the spirit of the season, we will use similar techniques to create still life painting on panel of a holiday favorite: gingerbread! A baker from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will bake the gingerbread cookies for the still life. On December 12, we will enjoy gingerbread cookies made for the session.
Miss Judy will lead the final session on December 19th. This month we will make Christmas cards. Participants must pre-register for this club and space is limited to 15 students. Register at the Circulation Desk or call 362-6527. Art Club will resume on January 9th, after the holidays.
