Art Club

Every Wednesday

4:00 to 5:00 pm

The Art Club is for children in the 1st through 6th grade. Members study the works of famous artists and different forms of art and create works of art that illustrate the work.

The Art Club is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. With the funding from this grant, the Art Club is able to offer art classes facilitated by local artists. Julie Mader, local artist with the PA Wilds will lead the Art Club in April. On April 3, they will continue to work on their paintings of PA state blossoms. She will also talk about the works of Emily Carr and Henri Matisse. Emily Carr was one of the first painters in Canada to adopt a Modernist and Post-Impressionist painting style. On April 10 and 17th, Art Club members will create a watercolor landscape of the PA Wilds inspired by the work of Emily Carr. Henri Matisse, a French painter, was known for his revolutionary use of brilliant color and exaggerated form to express emotion. Bold papercut art and simplified shapes by Matisse will be the inspiration for a Japanese notan design in the first of two sessions exploring his work. Notan design is a term that refers to the Japanese idea of balanced light and dark areas in a composition. The program is free and open to the public.
