Art Club

Wed, Mar 20, 2019
4:00pm - 5:00pm

The Art Club is for children in the 1st through 6th grade. Members study the works of famous artists and different forms of art and create works of art that illustrate the work.

The Art Club is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. With the funding from this grant, the Art Club is able to offer art classes facilitated by local artists. On March 6 and March 13, the Art Club will celebrate the work of Dale Chihuly, an American glass sculptor. They will create their two glass-like hanging sculptures: one for home and one to proudly display in the library. Julie Mader, local artist with the PA Wilds will lead the Art Club for the remaining weeks of March. She will talk about the works of Yayoi Kusama and Georgia O’Keeffe. Yayoi Kusama is a contemporary Japanese sculptor, painter and filmmaker. On March 20, the art club members will create separate panels, which represents themselves, and the panels will be combined to make a collaborative piece of work. Georgia O’Keeffe, an American artist, was referred to as the “Mother of Modernism”. She was best known for her paintings of enlarged flowers, New York skyscrapers and New Mexico landscapes. On March 27, members will create acrylic paintings of PA state blossoms. Spacing is limited to 16 participants and preregistration is required to participate. The program is free and open to the public.
