Most mornings I see some guy long before that director shows up to make my breakfast. The guy is friendly, but I don't think he knows how to open a can of food. Anyway, he does say good morning before he starts to climb a ladder and do something with the lights in my building. More guys are tromping around way up on my roof. My friend Cathy is back in her little office. And there's a big fish swimming around in a big glass box that sits on a table close to the place where my staff gets their work done.
These are just SOME of the things that have happened lately at my library. So I am spending quite a bit of time on the high shelves where I can stay mostly out of sight and try to figure out exactly what is going on!
Last week all my staff, even some of the ones I haven't seen for a while, got together in my Carnegie meeting room with that director and lots of food to have a party. I wasn't invited, exactly, but I dropped by just in case some tuna or chicken happened to escape. There was lots of hugging and lots of picture taking--and then I knew--the party was to say good bye to that director.
The morning after that party while I was in her office helping her write a letter, she told me that she was retiring very soon.
For me, retiring means curling up in my napping nest. But I don't think that director would fit. She must have a bigger napping nest somewhere else and that's where she's going to retire.
Maybe for now I will retire, too. In my own napping nest, of course.
And then when I stop retiring maybe I'll chat some more.
Love,

p.s. My staff tells me that now I have more than 300 friends with a face and a book. That's almost a different friend for every day of the year! Do YOU have a face and a book? Are you my friend? Remember my full name is Whispurr Nap.
